Ceylon sonata

adagio: Ceylon Sonata

Black tea from Sri Lanka. In colonial times, this island-nation was known as Ceylon. This name is still used to describe all teas grown here. Ceylon tea is bright and lively, with a wonderfully delicate flavor. Our ‘Ceylon Sonata’ is the finest grade tea from the renowned Kenilworth estate, located in Sri Lanka’s Kandy region. The perfect afternoon tea.

Me:

this is a nice black tea not to strong but with a good flavour, you can add to it and there wont be any clash with the taste, on the second brewing it gives off a beautiful fruity taste, i would say its apricot and its great. i don’t even like apricot, but its more like apricot syrup then dried apricot.

price: 80z tin $12 CAD or USD

Irish Breakfast

Irish breakfast from adagio teas is a nice general black tea that has a nice medium taste there isn’t anything to special about it and there isn’t any special flavours that come through this is good with milk or just plain and i like that, its stronger tasting then a Darjeeling but not as much as a golden monkey (yuck). its a combination of a Ceylon of  Sri Lanka and a Assam of India. this is typically served with breakfast as the name implies, but would be a nice afternoon tea while you read your book. for newbies in tea drinking this is something good to start with

Tomato Rebel Black Tea

The tomato rebel black tea by fullyloadedtea is quite a bland tea I thought it would have a sundried tomato punch to it but that is hardly evident actually; there is not much of any taste to it at all. It does have a kind of arts and crafts smell to it (one of those little stores that sells all the local hand made stuff) the only flavour you do taste is a bit of the basil on the back of your tongue. I’ve tried this a couple of times to make sure I was getting it right that included a double infusion and even using my zarafina on the bag setting but still no real change. Therefore, I would pass on a one it was a let down.

Darjeeling #22

The Darjeeling #22 is a black tea from adagio.com, this is one of those soft plain teas it has a nice dark golden brown colour. This one doesn’t really have any kind of special taste to it nothing unique so plain or with milk and honey it doesn’t matter this would be a good tea in the afternoon with a friend. The tea isn’t finicky you don’t have to worry about over steeping or the temp. a 4oz tin is $12

the citrus spiked black tea is another sutle black tea the citrus has a mellowing zest to it and really rounds out the taste. when i opened the package i got an almost peppery smell that tickled my nose. the colour when dry is striking black with flecks of blue and bright red from the orange blossoms is stunning. this is another fully loaded tea blend and it really delivers.

Yunnan Jig

This is a black to from the Yunnan region of china far south. The tea is pretty mild as black teas go it has a subtle woods taste kind of musty but still subtle not overpowering and actually soothing. this is one of those teas that you dont have to worry about over steeping which is always nice. I hate worrying about my tea and wondering is it supposed to taste like that.  think this would be a good tea for those night classes to stay awake in. this is an adagio tea and the 4 oz tin is $10 (link)

milk in your tea

This is a little bit of past news but new too me. It turns out milk in your tea nullifies all of the benefits to your heart, tea is known to relax your arteries and allow for increased blood flow but when milk is added this does not happen. The study was done by  German Scientists at Charite Hospital at the University of Berlin and the study was just done on black tea not on green tea. The gist of the studies results were that the protein in milk (casein) decreases the compound in the tea (catechins) which helps fight heart disease.

Here is a link to the official results of the team found in the European Heart Jornal (link)
